What I Stand For
Effective Representation comes from having the kind of experience that is required to do a job well. My experience comes directly from a life growing up in this community, going to church and school here, and from working face to face with residents at all income levels and with people of diverse ethnic, religious and racial backgrounds. Aware of its unique history, its problems and strengths, I am in a good position to be the kind of representative who is also a leader able to pull-even those whom they may at times disagree-together to strengthen the fabric of life within the community. Education at every level is key to a better life. I intend to work together as a partner with our Fresno Unified Board Trustee to support the schools in every possible way. I believe it is the responsibility of City government to work hard to support the base that gives the families of children who attend FUSD and WUSD schools the stability and security in their own neighborhood that is foundational to a child’s social and academic development. Infrastructure and Investment in Business in any community should provide for all the of the residents of that community including not only the economic, educational, and everyday needs, but also the cultural, aesthetic, and spiritual needs of District 3 as it once did. I know that we can do a better job of bringing investment into District 3. It has been 23 years since I worked to use Fresno Redevelopment Agency Funds to build Kearny Palm Shopping Center (with FoodMaxx and other services) which is still the only economic center in District 3. I also believe that housing can be built that is both attractive and affordable to low income residents (cf Madera*) and that District 3 residents deserve to feel a pride of place inspired by efforts to beautify the community.
